CINEVENT 37 – Another weekend of classics!

May 27, 28, 29 & 30, 2005 will mark our 37th anniversary! CINEVENT is an annual gathering of fans of silent and early sound films, and of collectors of motion pictures and related items.  Hundreds of fans attended last year’s convention to see screenings of many great (and/or rare) films of the past. Talk with others who share your cinematic interests, and visit the dealers rooms, where dealers fill over 170 tables full of film, videos & DVDs, sound recordings, posters, stills, lobby cards, books, autographs—everything imaginable associated with the movies.

This Year In our SCREENING ROOM SEE:

Clyde Beaty is a circus owner taking on lions and tigers in THE BIG CAGE (1933); silent screen action hero Richard Talmadge battles to retrieve a death ray stolen by spies in LAUGHING AT DANGER (1924); Jack Benny, George Burns and Gracie Allan and an all-star cast put on THE BIG BROADCAST OF 1937 (1936); silent screen couple Charles Farrell and Janet Gaynor make an all-talking-singing-dancing debut in SUNNY SIDE UP (1929); the Man of a Thousand Faces shows his greatness once again in a rare LON CHANEY SR. FILM; Belita hits the ice in the worlds only skating-noir musical SUSPENSE (1946); it starts with a game of cards for lumberjack William S. Hart as BLUE BLAZES RAWDEN (1918); what do “Perkin’s Stuffed Pickles” have to do with a South-of-the-border revolution? Just ask Johnny Hines, THE CRACKERJACK (1925); Clara Bow and Kay Francis throw

DANGEROUS CURVES (1929) at Richard Arlen in this high-wire, high-voltage circus picture; Sue Carol tries to save her boyfriend from fast cars and bad guys in WALKING BACK (1926); if you are a Pickford fan don’t miss out on our screening of an extraordinarily rare MARY PICKFORD FILM; hotshot reporter Lee Tracy gives ADVICE TO THE LOVELORN (1933); Roland Young as a meek shop assistant becomes THE MAN WHO COULD WORK MIRACLES (1936) and the world goes mad; Cecil B. DeMille indulges in some royal hanky-panky and that’s just the beginning in ADAM’S RIB (1923); army officer Richard Barthelmess bets he can carry off a stagecoach robbery in RANSON’S FOLLY (1926); Nancy Carroll’s about to wed Cary Grant,

but becomes THE WOMAN ACCUSED (1933) instead; Adolphe Menjou is KING ON MAIN STREET (1925), romancing Bessie Love; insurance investigator Edmund Lowe might have to make a GRAND EXIT (1935) if he can’t clear his name; Pola Negri and Clive Brook deal with BARBED WIRE (1927); will Carole Lombard fall prey to William Powell, that MAN OF THE WORLD (1931); Gene Raymond wagers he can write a mystery novel in 24 hours in the fifth filming of George M. Cohan and Earl Digger Biggers SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE (1935); fireman Harry Langdon tries to impress the girl in his last Sennett silent, HIS FIRST FLAME (1926); and (to clear out the house) the film that historian Don Miller labeled "one of the worst movies ever made by any standards,” Lola Lane in the hilariously inept MISS V FROM MOSCOW (1942); and a MINI-festival of Laurel and Hardy shorts (Them Thar Hills, Tit For Tat and one more); A festival of CHARLEY CHASE shorts; a collection of silent comedy gems presented by Richard M. Roberts (The World’s Tallest Film Historian!); our annual animation program (ALL TALK-INK, ALL-SING-INK, ALL DANCE-INK) and more! The Screenings begin at 1:00 PM Friday, and run through 1:00 PM Monday (with a little time out to sleep!)

Registration for CINEVENT 37 is $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Meet hundreds of other fans at one of Classic Film Fandom’s friendliest social events!
